BoardWALK is a highly effective Board training program. The Developing Board Leaders Through Training series consists of seven workshops focusing on building the skills of current and prospective nonprofit board members and executive staff.
Workshops Include:
Board Member Essentials – Overview of best practices for board members regarding management roles, and their legal and ethical responsibilities
Making Strategic Planning Work – Understand the fundamentals of strategic management and the board’s role in the development, implementation and evaluation of an organization’s strategic plan
Fund Development for Board Members – Learn how fund development enables your organization to sustain its programs and services
Financial Oversight of the Board – Introduction to the duties related to financial accountability of the board and strategies for providing financial oversight
High Performing Boards – Understand how to evaluate, recruit and train your board to be effective, productive and self-renewing
Effective Board Teams – Examine methods for improving team focus and decision-making at the board table
Executive Director & Board Relationship – Understand how to effectively develop, manage and define the roles and responsibilities of the executive director in relation to the board
Each workshop is held on the campus of Lawrence Technological University (LTU) in Southfield. All classes are handicap accessible. Parking for these sessions is free.
A Certificate of Completion is earned for participation at all the sessions.
LTU is located on West 10 Mile Road, just west of the Lodge Freeway. All sessions are held from 9 am to noon in Room 336 of the Buell Building. For more information on location call 248-204-3095. During inclement weather, BoardWALK will be cancelled when Southfield schools are cancelled.
