As an organization, DESC is unique in that it utilizes these highly skilled volunteers to provide the hands-on assistance to its nonprofit clients through the programs and services that are offered. DESC is able to make a difference in the southeast Michigan community because of this investment in our efforts.
DESC's impact goes well beyond the over 200 nonprofit organizations and schools it works with on an annual basis. While DESC may not directly feed the hungry, better the environment, or shelter the homeless, it is helping organizations that do. DESC's strength is its ability to guide and empower these nonprofits and schools with the tools they need to succeed. Annually DESC's volunteer consultants invest over 5,000 hours of time working on over 300 projects in our community. Through these efforts, DESC's impact is felt by 1,000,000 citizens each year.

You might ask - what does a DESC volunteer do? Our volunteers serve as consultants, mentors, and facilitators, just to name a few.
If you choose to join our consulting team, you will put your knowledge and expertise to use helping nonprofit organizations and schools to strengthen their sustainability and operational effectiveness. By helping them to improve their operations, DESC's volunteers are ensuring that these organizations are supporting our community and enriching the lives of our citizens.

Who are DESC's Volunteers?
Our volunteers are either actively employed or retired executives or professionals who have had successful careers. These individuals represent middle and upper management from all the major industries and professions in our community. A sampling of the industries represented include automotive, banking, education, entrepreneurial, health care, information systems, insurance, legal, marketing, nonprofit, professional services and retail.
What is the time commitment?
DESC makes volunteering with our organization easy. We offer flexible schedules that easily adapt to your life and/or work schedule. Assignments can be made with as little as a 6 hour commitment per month.
